WASHINGTON D.C

Hi.

This is made to be kept as a memory.
This is a blog about traveling to the capital of USA.
This is a blog about learning and realizing new things, and growing tremendously as a person during a single week.
This is a blog, that mainly was created to answer the question:

“How does a society heavily formed by today’s media affect people’s empathy compared to the time before instant-news?”

While visiting Washington with my School, my classmates and I, had the chance to hear several speakers throughout the week. These were people from completely different backgrounds; one of them was a Jewish woman who grew up in a France where Jews were being hunted down by Nazis, the other was one of the last Shah of Iran’s sons; he was talking about how he felt over his country now being rolled by a very, very, strict and corrupt government.

But there never was a single speaker, who encouraged us to not take a part of society.
There are wars out there- everywhere. People are being murdered- everyday, all the time. There is corruption in the government- in every single one.

The main difference that I realized when comparing the lectures, was how the outside world reacted to these events. The Jewish survivor from the Nazi time period emphasized how ‘safe’ she felt afterwards, and how the outside world treated her. Just Nazi Germany is a subject that still is very tense; even though it’s been several centuries, people keep bringing it up in history classes, thousands of books about that time is sold annually. My theory is that this is because Nazi Germany was the main subject of talk during that time. Everyone was horrified of how something like that could occur in a country during that time; this was the big big news of their time. Even though there still were problems outside of Germany, people couldn’t stop focusing on this place.

In today’s world, there are things as bad or even worse going on everyday. The problem is that the citizens of our society don’t know anymore where to draw their attention to. News about what’s going on in Africa is the second after replaced with news about struggles in the Middle East, for later being replaced by commercials or other horrifying news.

Many of the speakers said that they couldn’t help us to save the world. They said that it is our own choice to create a change; many of them said that the very first thing that should be done is to get ride of the corrupt governments. I can’t help you to save the world, but what I’ve done instead, is that I gathered some of the quotes from those speakers, that I thought stood out, that I felt made this journey towards a greater world a bit better. Therefore I made this blog; so you could hold on to these quotes while you fight for a difference out there.

Thank you for reading.

During my trip to Washington D.C, I had the chance to hear a speaker.
Greg Simons, a man who for many years has worked together with the government, said during a talk to our school that “There is no getting rid of evil, only creating more good.”I realized how very true this quote is; of course we shouldn’t stop fighting dictatorships around the world, of course this doesn’t mean that we should stop trying to fighting evil, this only means that we should realize that we as small people might not be able to stop all the evil that goes out in the world, this only means that the only way to overturn evil out there is by creating more good.
I could not agree more.

When I visited Washington D.C with my school, we had the great opportunity have a guest speaker. This speaker was named ‘Reza Pahlavi’, even though we addressed him as ‘His Majesty’. His one of Iran’s last Shah’s sons.He was talking to us about the importance of fighting against corrupt governments, and to never give up that struggle. Something that caught my attention specifically was that he said “The minute you stop trying to make your voice heard, that’s when they’ll stop listening to you.”Which I personally believe is very true. That’s also when you choice to give up everything.
From personal experience I’ve noticed that this is true; if you’re fighting really hard to accomplish something, it’s never worth to just give up, not even for a short moment of time, because that’s the same moment everything will be over.
